2016 Ecological and Evolutionary Ethology of Fishes
June 14-16, 2016
Florida State University (FSU) in Tallahassee, Florida, is pleased to host the 20th Biennial Ecological and Evolutionary Ethology of Fishes (EEEF) Meeting.
The meeting will be held on the Florida State University campus, with hotel accommodations nearby.
The steering committee this year includes Dr. Felicia Coleman, Dr. Chip Cotton, Dr. Gary Ostrander, and Dr. Joseph Travis (all from Florida State University), Dr. Gene Helfman (University of Georgia), Dr. David Noakes (Oregon State University), Dr. Nathan Putman (NOAA Fisheries, Southeast Fisheries Science Center), and Dr. Colette St. Mary (University of Florida). The meeting is organized around four primary themes:
- Population genomics of fishes (Organizer: Travis)
- Sensory ecology, movement patterns, and behavior (Organizer: Putman)
- Species Interactions (Organizer: Cotton)
- Biodiversity: Discovery, Variation & Conservation (Organizer: St. Mary)
Social Events: While you’re here, you’ll experience Florida’s local seafood and sample beers from our microbreweries -- Proof Brewing Company (Tallahassee) and Oyster City Brewing Company (Apalachicola). Social events include a welcome reception the night before the meeting at the hotel (hosted by the FSU Vice President for Research, Dr. Gary Ostrander), a Cocktail & Posters Session, and the Ultimate Soirèe at a local watering hole, Proof Brewery, Taproom & Beer Garden.
Visiting the "Other Florida": We hope that you will consider hanging around for a while either before or after the meeting to take advantage of some of the wonderful natural areas of this region – an area we call, “The Other Florida”. E. O Wilson describes the Florida panhandle as one of the richest biodiversity hotspots in North America. It absolutely is like nowhere else in the state, with incredible National Natural Landmarks that include the Florida Caverns, Wakulla Springs, and Torreya State Park along the Apalachicola River. For those seeking more rigorous activities, you can hike the Florida Trail, paddle the pristine Wacissa River, or bike the Tallahassee-St. Marks Historic Railroad State Trail. There are countless outdoor adventures in the region. Beach goers might want to visit St. George Island State Park and visit historic Apalachicola. Kick back and stay a while.
