FSUCML researchers, Dr. Sandra Brooke, Emily Fuqua, and Jen Bueno, began drone surveys to map depleted intertidal oyster reefs in Oyster Bay.

Jenny Bueno, a Ph.D. Candidate in the Department of Geography, just published a new paper on "The application of unoccupied aerial systems (UAS) for monitoring intertidal oyster density and abundance." Dr. Sandra Brooke, Dr. Josh Breithaupt, and Dr. Dean Grubbs were among the many scientists who contributed to the "Results and Impacts of the First Decade of the Florida RESTORE Act Centers of Excellence Program" report. This report covers a variety of fields and projects within Florida in the aftermath of the BP Horizon Oil Spill.

FSU alumna Nika Blank (MSc. 2021, adv. Dr. Brooke) recently published a paper on spatial variation in hard bottom coral communities of the coastal West Florida Shelf.

NOAA Fisheries has officially announced the final rule implementing Amendment 9 to the Fishery Management Plan for Coral and Coral Reef Resources in the Gulf of Mexico – effective November 16, 2020.

Hydrodynamics and Habitat Suitability for Meiofauna And Corals (HydroSMAC) Florida State's Coastal and Marine Laboratory is excited to announce that a few of our own faculty members embarked on an exciting research mission in the eastern Gulf of Mexico. From October 1st to 10th, a team of scientists from Florida State University (FSU), Florida Agricultural and Mechanical University (FAMU) and NOAA National Centers for Coastal Ocean Science (NCCOS), sailed aboard the Research Vessel Point Sur and used the Remotely Operated Vehicle (ROV) Global Explorer to study benthic communities off the West Florida Escarpment (WFE).
