Launching scholarship to sea: FSUCML receives $100,000 endowment


Florida State University alumni Tommy Warren and Kathy Villacorta’s gift creates the Coastal and Marine Conservation Student Research Endowment to provide support for graduate student research into protecting and conserving coastal and marine habitats, ecologically and economically important marine species, and sustainable fisheries. Bianca Prohaska wins Guy Harvey Scholarship


Bianca Prohaska, a doctoral student of Dr. Dean Grubbs, was just awarded a 2014 Guy Harvey Scholarship, which is funded by the Guy Harvey Ocean Foundation and administered by Florida Sea Grant. There was strong competition this year, with over 50 applicants for the award. Bianca’s application package was outstanding and was rated very highly by a selection committee comprised of faculty from three Florida universities and by the Guy Harvey Ocean Foundation.

FSUCML Board of Trustees Graduate Scholarship Fund


Member of the FSUCML Board of Trustees, Arthur Stern III, challenged his fellow board members to raise over $10,000 to fund scholarships for the next few years for graduate students conducting their masters or doctoral research at the FSUCML. They met their goal, and then some, resulting in an announcement going out to students to submit proposals.

Congrats to the Recipient of The Matt Beard Memorial Scholarship


We would like to congratulate Ms. Ashley Carreiro on being the 2013 recipient of The Matt Beard Memorial Undergraduate Marine Research Scholarship. This special award is given to the student who embodies all that Matt exemplified as a student in the Certificate Program in Marine Biology and as a member of the Academic Diving Program community.
