Shellfish Hatchery/Facilities Mechanical Technician– Job ID#61911
The FSUCML is located on the northeastern Gulf of Mexico coast in a relatively undeveloped area of rich biological diversity and social and cultural history, known as the “Forgotten Coast.” The technician will be based at the FSUCML in St Teresa, which is one hour south of the FSU main campus in Tallahassee, FL.
The MISSION of the FSUCML is to conduct innovative, interdisciplinary research that contributes to solving ecological problems and providing the scientific foundation for informed policy decisions.
The VISION for the FSUCML is to be an internationally recognized center for coastal and marine science, setting the agenda for research and education and remaining a trusted source for scientific advice.
This position will provide maintenance support for the shellfish hatchery, including plumbing, electrical, small construction projects and also troubleshooting and maintenance of the water systems within and external to the hatchery. Other general facilities responsibilities will be assigned as needed
Responsibilities
- This position installs, maintains, and repairs FSUCML shellfish hatchery facility and physical plant systems lab wide, including electrical; HVAC; general plumping and seawater.
- This position assists in project planning by producing cost estimates and procurement; reads and follows blueprints and other verbal or written instructions; and completes repair orders.
- Drives University vehicles as required.
- Responsible for other duties as assigned within the department.
- High school diploma/equivalency and two years of experience.
- Ability to meet the physical requirements of this position, which include repeated bending, lifting up to 50 pounds, climbing, and working under extreme outdoor conditions.
- Must have a valid Florida or Georgia Driver's License, or the ability to obtain prior to hire.

- Knowledge of and the ability to interpret and apply related University policies, procedures, principles, and practices.
- Knowledge of the practices and the ability to perform skilled carpentry, painting, plumbing, electrical, HVAC, or other related trades work.
- Knowledge of general maintenance principles, practices, and techniques.
- Working knowledge of computer software including Microsoft Office.
