FSUCML hosts researchers from all over the world to discuss Arctic Permafrost

Roughly 30 researchers from three continents (North America, Australia, Europe) and six U. S. Universities (including Dr. Jeff Chanton from Florida State University) met at the Florida State University Coastal and Marine Laboratory on February 26 -28, 2016 for a workshop on permafrost decomposition in the Arctic. These researchers, funded for six years by the U. S. Department of Energy Office of Biological and Environmental Research, are focusing on the microbial and geochemical controls on the Carbon cycle. One of the group's main foci is methane emission, a greenhouse gas released when permafrost decomposes. Included are graduate students, faculty and postdoctoral associates. Part of the workshop focused on proposal development to continue this critical research.
